Austin residents give about 4.1 percent of their discretionary income to charity, according to a study by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Austinites contributed a total of $790.8 million with a median contribution of $2,630. The state is more charitable than the Capital City, with 6.7 percent of Texans’ income going to charity, totaling $10.7 billion.
