Austin, Texas Set to Decide X Games Fate Tomorrow May 23rd

XGamesCircuit of The Americas is asking the city of Austin to endorse ESPN’s summer X Games so the sports facility can apply for money from Texas’ Major Events Trust Fund.

COTA President Steve Sexton estimates the circuit may seek about $800,000 a year from the fund, the Austin American-Statesman reports.

Austin is competing with Chicago, Detroit and Charlotte, N.C. to host the international event in 2014, 2015 and 2016 which features skateboard, BMX, motorcycle and bike competitions.

Austin City Council will vote Thursday on whether to endorse the event, and on $150,000 in waived fees and other services for the games, including security from police officers, the Statesman reports.

A decision on which city will host the four-day event will be announced in early July. The economic impact on Austin could surpass $50 million.
